Part A – Write a 1-2 page summary of the paper “Transmitter release induced by injection of
calcium ions into nerve terminals.” The following points must be covered in your summary:
a. Background – Write a brief paragraph on signal transmission at chemical synapses from what
you have learned in class in your own words. What does the author say about the involvement of
calcium ions in neurotransmitter release? Experiments related to what question are reported in
this article?
b. Experimental setup – Write a brief description of the experimental setup in your own words.
You may want to refer to previously described studies (Miledi 1967; Katz & Miledi 1967) to
understand and describe the experimental setup better.
c. Results – Describe the main results from this article in your own words.
d. Discussions – Briefly summarize the Author’s discussion regarding the results obtained in
your own words. Also add comments/limitations of this study, as mentioned by the author and/or
those that you think are relevant, for this section.
e. Conclude by describing your views regarding the significance of this study and its
contributions to understanding chemical transmission.
