GUIDELINES FOR BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH PAPER ASSIGNMENT
*Each student will select one of the four major theorists of the classical tradition whose work is of special interest to him or her, and study” him” (note that they were all men –Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, Georg Simmel) in more detail by integrating his life into his work as a sociologist.
*Give your paper a title that aptly reflects how you as a sociologist in training , see the personality and intellectual legacy of the classical sociologist of your choice.
*Your paper should be about 5 7 pages, double-spaced, word-processed, and must incorporate the entire span of the life-history, intellectual contributions to sociological theory, and the value to sociology today, of the legacy of the theorist.
*In your concluding paragraph, reflect on why you think the theorist you are studying deserves to be studied by all who care to better understand the social world, especially those who aspire to become sociologists (or social scientists).
*You must consult about 5 sources (preferably books) for this paper.
* The APA Style of format and documentation is preferred for this paper.

PURPOSE OF THIS ASSIGNMENT
By researching the existing literature and writing this paper, you will come to understand the unique circumstances that gave rise to sociological thinking about the social world; how a particular classical sociologist acquired and used that unique quality of mind we recognize today (through an important work of C. Wright Mills), as the sociological imagination, to go about his work; and above all, what set each of the founding fathers of sociology apart from other great “thinkers” perpetually. Furthermore, this assignment will enable you to connect the ideas and writings of a classical sociologist to contemporary issues in human societies
